On March 6, 2020, Governor Beshear entered Executive Order 2020-215 and declared a State of Emergency in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency in the Commonwealth. To stop the spread of COVID-19, the Governor and public health officials have encouraged Kentuckians to stay home, limit in-person contact, practice social distancing, and avoid crowds. In light of these measures and to protect the health and safety of court employees, elected officials, and the general public, the Supreme Court of Kentucky has entered several administrative orders restricting court services and limiting in-person proceedings.

In anticipation of a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Supreme Court issued new amendments today that strengthen the social-distancing order that has been in place in courts statewide since March 16. The order restricts dockets, jury trials and jury service during the pandemic.

The Supreme Court has approved additional amendments to its administrative order restricting dockets, jury trials and jury service during the pandemic. The new amendments included in Supreme Court Administrative Order 2020-13, dated March 26, 2020, are:

In accordance with Supreme Court Orders 2020-8 and 2020-9 issued March 12 and 13, 2020, https://kentucky.gov/Pages/Activity-stream.aspx?n=KentuckyCourtofJustice&prId=159 respectively, and with the approval of the Court, the Inquiry Commission has extended deadlines for thirty days from March 17, 2020 in attorney disciplinary matters over which it has jurisdiction pursuant to SCR 3.
